Why teams migrate to WordPress

'Lock-in' is the word that comes up on - every migration call.

You signed up for Wix or Squarespace because it was fast to launch. Two years later you need real SEO, real integrations, a real CMS your team can extend — and you realise the platform you built on doesn't let you export the site you paid to build.

WordPress is the exit. Not because it's trendy, but because it's the one CMS that gives you code-level ownership: standard PHP, standard MySQL, host anywhere, move anywhere. The platform has been stable since 2003, and the ecosystem is deep enough that whatever you're trying to do, someone's already solved it.

Moving from a proprietary platform to WordPress isn't the hard part. Doing it without losing Google rankings, breaking internal links, losing customers mid-checkout, or taking the site offline for a weekend — that's the hard part. That's the part we've done hundreds of times.

01

You'll own the code

No more paying per-feature to the platform you can't leave. WordPress runs anywhere — move hosts any time.

02

Real SEO control

Schema, sitemaps, redirects, robots.txt, Core Web Vitals — all editable. Not a drop-down with 12 options.

03

Every integration works

HubSpot, Salesforce, Razorpay, Stripe, Mailchimp, Zapier, Segment — WordPress already talks to all of them.

04

Your team can edit content

Without a developer for every text change. Without breaking design. Gutenberg or a block builder, your call.

05

Monthly bills don't spiral

Hosting + care plan is predictable. Wix Enterprise or Squarespace Advanced Commerce are not, and you can't negotiate them.

What our WordPress migration service covers

Every byte moved, nothing lost

The work that makes migrations actually work — most of which happens behind the scenes before the DNS ever flips.

Platform audit & content export

Snapshot every page, post, product, media file, custom field, and URL from the source platform — nothing skipped.

Design-accurate rebuild

Recreate the site on WordPress pixel-accurate (or redesigned if that's the goal), using custom theme code or block patterns.

Content migration

All content — pages, blog posts, products, custom types, categories, tags — ported over with full metadata intact.

Media migration

Images, PDFs, videos moved to the new host and relinked. Alt text, captions, and file metadata preserved.

URL mapping & 301 redirects

Every old URL mapped one-to-one to the new location. 301s installed so Google follows the move and preserves ranking.

SEO preservation

Meta titles, descriptions, schema, canonical tags rebuilt on the new site. Sitemap submitted, Search Console notified.

DNS & SSL transition

We coordinate the DNS cutover, install SSL on the new host, and handle email records (MX, SPF, DKIM) if you're using them.

Post-migration testing

Every URL crawled, every form submitted, every internal link checked, every checkout completed end-to-end before we call it done.

Rollback plan

Complete snapshot of the old site retained for 60 days. If anything breaks, we can be back on the original within an hour.

How zero-downtime WordPress migration works

From plan to live - in 2 to 6 weeks

The migration process we've refined over hundreds of WordPress moves.

01
Week 1

Audit & plan

Full content inventory, URL audit, and SEO audit of the existing site. We deliver a migration plan: scope, timeline, known risks, and anything we recommend skipping (old blog posts with zero traffic, broken legacy pages, etc.).

02
Week 2–4

Staged rebuild

Build the new WordPress site on a staging URL. You review every page before we go near DNS. Content migrated, templates set, plugins configured, tracking codes wired up, forms tested.

03
2 days

Dry-run cutover

Full dress rehearsal on the staging environment. Every URL checked, every form tested, every redirect verified. Only when the dry-run is perfect do we schedule the live switch.

04
2–4 hr

Live switch

DNS flip, SSL install, cache warm, final redirect sweep. Executed in your site's quietest traffic window. The old platform stays live for 60 days as a fallback — no burned bridges.

05
30 days

Monitor & settle

Search Console monitoring, ranking checks, 404 sweeps, analytics reconciliation. We don't disappear after launch — we babysit for a month so any weirdness gets caught and fixed fast.

Real project

12,000 SKUs from Shopify to WooCommerce - zero downtime, +34% checkout

Shopify → WooCommerce migrationBangalore, India

₹40k/mo in Shopify fees, zero GST compliance, 6-week migration to WooCommerce with zero rank loss

A D2C brand in Bangalore was paying ₹40,000/month in Shopify per-transaction fees and fighting Shopify's limits on GST-compliant invoicing for Indian buyers. They wanted out. But they had 12,000 SKUs, 8 years of blog content, active Google Shopping campaigns, and couldn't afford a single hour offline.

We ran a 6-week migration. Full Shopify export, WooCommerce staging build with a custom theme matching their Shopify design exactly, Razorpay integration with saved cards, Shiprocket for fulfilment, a custom GST invoicing module, and 12,400 one-to-one 301 redirects mapped from Shopify URLs to the new WooCommerce URLs.

Cutover happened on a Tuesday at 3am IST — their lowest-traffic window. The old Shopify store stayed live on a subdomain for 60 days as a safety net. Zero downtime in reality. Within 90 days their Google Shopping feed was fully healthy on the new site, checkout conversion was up 34%, and they were saving ₹36,000/month versus Shopify fees.

WordPress migration FAQ

Questions we hear on every migration call

Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, Joomla, Drupal, HubSpot CMS, Ghost, Medium, static HTML, old custom PHP sites, and WordPress → WordPress (host-to-host). If it's on the web, we've probably moved a site off it to WordPress at some point.

A standard marketing site is 2–3 weeks. A WooCommerce migration with 1,000+ SKUs is 4–6 weeks. Enterprise migrations with multi-language or multi-site can take 8–12 weeks. We send a scoped timeline with the migration plan after the initial audit — no open-ended estimates.

With correct 301 redirects and preserved meta, most sites see no ranking movement at all. Some see a small temporary dip that recovers in 2–4 weeks. The risk scenarios are sites with sloppy URL mapping (everything redirected to the homepage), or sites where the source platform's URLs were auto-generated and hard to replicate — we address both of those in the planning phase.

The new site is built and QA'd on a staging URL while the old site keeps running. Only at the end do we do the DNS flip — that switch itself takes a few minutes, and we schedule it in your lowest-traffic window. Some users hit the old site, some hit the new one during DNS propagation, but both sites are fully functional so nobody sees an error.

Basic marketing-site migration starts at ₹49,999 ($599). WooCommerce migrations start at ₹1,49,999 ($1,799) because of the extra work on product data, payment gateways, and order history. Multi-site, multi-language, or migrations with heavy custom code are quoted on the call.

Your call. Some clients want a pixel-accurate rebuild so there's no visual change for returning visitors. Others use the migration as the excuse to ship a redesign they've been putting off. We do both — a redesign-during-migration usually adds 2–3 weeks to the timeline.

We keep the old site live on a subdomain (like old.yourdomain.com) for 60 days after cutover as a rollback safety net. On day 60, if everything's stable, you cancel the source platform subscription. That way you're only paying double for 60 days max — and usually the migration savings in month 3 onwards pay for the migration fee itself.

Yes — this is one of our most common migrations. Moving from a slow shared host to managed WordPress, from GoDaddy / Bluehost to us or Kinsta, or consolidating multiple WordPress sites onto one stack. Usually completed in 1–2 weeks with no content changes — just infrastructure.

If you're using email on the same domain ([email protected]), we preserve your MX records, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC through the cutover so email doesn't break. We coordinate with your email provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho, or self-hosted) ahead of the DNS flip — email continuity is standard, not an add-on.

Yes. Multi-language migrations (WPML, Polylang, or manual subfolder setups) are quoted based on language count and content volume. Multi-site (WordPress network) migrations are common in enterprise — we've moved 50+ site networks intact, with domain mapping preserved.
